Dooley Preschool teachers, Mrs. Goethals, and Mrs. Galba, introduced rhythm sticks in their three-year-old preschool program. They used the sticks to assist students in creative movement in both the school gym and also in the exercise room.
Music and movement help develop preschool social/emotional development, both large and small motor skills, listening and language skills. The sticks help develop rhythm, beat and tempo, creative thinking and problem solving, and directionality such as up, down, forward, and backward.
The students cooperated in a group, followed directions while tapping the rhythm sticks to familiar Disney tunes such as The Hi Ho Medley and the Mickey Mouse March.
“The children enjoyed it and asked if we could do it again!” said Mrs. Galba.
