Virtual Attendance Matters

Friday Schedules

Our Virtual students will have asynchronous work time each Friday afternoon throughout the school year to give our virtual teachers time to plan virtual lessons, receive additional training, reach out to individual students/ families, etc. Because of this, virtual students will only have their Friday Specials every other week as we will alternate between AM and PM specials each week. Your child's teacher will note this on their itslearning pages to remind you, but I wanted to mention it now.

Virtual Attendance Matters

Finally, please remember that all of our students, both those who will be coming for in-person learning and those who have chosen virtual learning, are required to be engaged in learning all day every day. Our district has created a rigorous virtual schedule to mimic the instructional minutes our students receive when they are face-to-face to make sure that all of our students are getting the same amount of instruction each day.

The school day runs from 8:35 am to 3:30 pm each day, and your child is expected to be "present" virtually the entire time each day for learning. (Teachers are being mindful to give breaks throughout the day.) Teachers are taking virtual attendance just as they would in a face-to-face environment, and we will follow up on truancy just as we would for children who miss too much in-person learning.

As much as possible, we need students to have cameras on so that teachers know their students are engaged in learning and so they can ask questions and interact with their teacher and peers. Please also make sure your child has a consistent place to do his/her learning each day and that all needed materials are on hand. While we understand that parents are juggling a lot, logging in to a class meeting from a store or a parent's appointment will not lead to effective learning for your child. Please continue to model for your student the importance of taking learning seriously, even in the virtual environment.

We are working hard to ensure that your child has a high-quality learning experience in the virtual environment. We know families are going through a great deal and that none of this is easy, and we hope to continue to partner with you to support your children.

If you have questions about our materials pick-up this Friday or anything else related to virtual learning, feel free to reach out to me (or your child's teacher) at any time.
