Objective 1.1 Strengthen literacy instruction.
1.1.1 Expand and enhance evidence-based literacy curriculum and interventions.
Implement, monitor, and evaluate (including all stakeholder feedback) tiered literacy curriculum.
Develop common literacy strategies for grade bands (e.g. Close and Critical Reading, Reading Apprenticeship, etc).
1.1.2 Provide literacy-focused professional development for teachers.
Assess needs of staff in regard to literacy instruction.
Revisit literacy initiatives for new staff members in the training of new educators.
Objective 1.2 Expand and enhance career pathway programs, including the exploration and development of new Career and Technical programs.
1.2.1 Increase access to career and technical education (CTE) opportunities.
Develop partnerships with local industries and postsecondary institutions.
Assess and modify building design and infrastructure requirements as needed for potential program sites.
Investigate staffing models and recruitment plans for qualified CTE-certified instructors.
Conduct a feasibility study and labor market analysis to evaluate local demand and inform program design.
Draft a program framework aligned with industry standards and state requirements, contingent on feasibility and funding.
1.2.2 Focus on Career Awareness in grades K-6, Career Exploration in grades 7-8, and Career Training in grades 9-12, leading to successful post-secondary placement.
Leverage a K-6 Career Awareness Advisory Committee to design, promote, and support developmentally appropriate career awareness opportunities to help students explore interests and understand the connection between education and future careers.
Advisory input from 9-12 Advisory Committees will be leveraged to support exploratory courses offered in grades 7 & 8, as well as state-certified pathways in grades 9-12.
Objective 1.3 Enhance Universal Design for Learning (UDL) instructional practices by focusing on high quality instructional design, expanded use of the learning management system and other resources, and integrated real-world experiences.
1.3.1 Continue to build staff proficiency in the application of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework to develop expert learners.
Continue to provide opportunities for staff to complete the UDL credentialing process for all staff.
Provide training on lesson reflection and redesign through the UDL lens.
Highlight and share best practices through teacher-led showcases, model classrooms, or digital resource libraries.
Educate staff in how to involve students in reflecting on and communicating their goals and progress with their families.
1.3.2 Enhance student engagement through project-based and experiential learning strategies.
Create internship and job-shadowing opportunities in various fields.
Work with Industry Advisors to guide curricular development across K-12.
Leverage digital tools that mirror real-world applications.
Intentional use of skill related vocabulary, interactions, and experiences in all areas that are tied to future careers
1.3.3 Enhance UDL instructional design through the use of the learning management system (Canvas) and other resources.
Identify current teacher usage patterns and training needs related to Canvas and other instructional tools.
Provide teacher driven professional learning focused on leveraging Canvas to design flexible, engaging, and standards-aligned lessons and project based learning.
Evaluate how Canvas and digital resources can support lesson flexibility, student engagement, and instructional coherence across grade levels.
